The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. This 2025 indie hit has now made its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like typical biological terror, but beneath Together resides a intense examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors infuse a unique chemistry to their roles, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie grapple with the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.
