Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
