PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
