Minister Says Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

A defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in all vehicles.

Safety Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on reports that MoD officials have been told not to discuss classified information while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified level in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This wider security environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of government activities, including vehicle usage to discussions habits.
